shutdown BASIC Shutdown BASIC is a small program that lets you schedule system shutdowns, restarts, or log offs after predefined periods of time. It was made using Visual Basic 2008 (2010) by myself (Dean Kellham) and is available free from this site (also available at softsea.com). Simple This is the main window of the program. From here you can select the action you want to perform, and set a time period (in seconds) before the action is realised. You can also minimise the application to the notification area (using the "Tray" button), or hide it entirely (with the "Hide" button; nb. can only be hidden if a timer is running). Helpful It's understandable that you don't want to get a calculator out every time you want to use the app, so for common times just right-click the timer entry box. When you select a common time the timer entry box will be automatically filled for you with the correct number of seconds. Notifications Recently I added system tray support (accessed via the "Tray" button). From the tray you can abort any ongoing timers, restore the original window, and even start common timers using the context menu. I've also made use of balloon notifications; so you'll get a popup when the PC will shutdown/restart/log off in 5, and 1 minute(s). There are a few other balloon notifications in there, but I forget what they're all for precisely. Easy Don't you hate the concept of having to grab a calculator to work out how many seconds you need to type in to get it to shut down in 2 and half hours? Well now there's a lovely little button next to the Timer Entry box that'll show a new little dialog which will let you enter your desired time in hours, minutes, and seconds, and it does the calculations for you, sticking the result directly into the Timer Entry box.
